The 2024/25 season was one of the best in recent years for the SPOC Cricket Club both on and off the field. In February we hosted 140 people at the National Wine Centre to mark the anniversary of multiple premierships stretching back 50 years, with Damien Fleming the guest speaker. It was great to see so many familiar faces in the room to share old war stories and celebrate some of the many successes in our club’s proud history.
We may have to host these events every year, as it proved to be a positive omen for our A grade. Well led by veteran Luke Harrington, the lads defeated Walkerville in the Grand Final to bring home the first A-grade premiership in 10 years. Our new T20 B-grade team also made the grand final, but unfortunately went down to Goodwood. Considering the average age of the team was only 21, it was a fantastic effort to get there.
Our Chester Bennett team was also victorious this year, beating the Old Reds in the Old Scholars Intercol match. Harvey Brennan made a brilliant century, which secured us the win. We can’t wait to host PAC in 2026, on the newly revamped Main Oval.
The Cricket Club is in a very healthy state, but we’re always looking to improve. Last season, we had no less than ten new old scholars playing for SPOC and we’d like to increase that number to 15 this coming season. If there is anyone you know who would be interested in playing some cricket, please contact our club coach, Henry Cameron at HCameron@stpeters.sa.edu.au. Next season we will again field three weekend sides and two T20 sides so please come along to the Caterer and Wilson to watch the guys in action.
