On a warm afternoon we lost the toss and were sent out to field. PAC took 9 off the first over but we quickly stemmed the flow with Luke Minicozzi and Paul Allegretto taking early wickets each. PAC fought back well with their captain Sam Vivian and Matt Thiele putting on a 60 run partnership for the 3rd wicket taking them to 65. The man for the job of breaking this was always going to be our crafty leg spinner Jett May who with his guile and astuteness deceived Thiele for 41, caught at mid-on by our captain and new father Mike Cranmer. PAC never quite regained their momentum after that, recent old scholar Lachie Monu took 2 wickets in his second over and Harvey Brennan also took 2 for good measure. A late burst from PAC’s no 9 pushed them to 7/134 off their 20 overs which seemed a competitive score.
It seemed a competitive score until Harvey Brennan walked to the crease, opening the innings with Paul Allegretto. Harvs’ first 5 scoring shots were fours and then decided to hit a couple of sixes for good measure before he decided running was a option to move the score along. We lost PA early for 6 with Mike Cranmer coming in at 3 who then had the best seat in the house to watch Harvs in action. Displaying some of the most glorious batting you are likely to see, Harvs punished the PAC bowlers to all parts of the ground hitting 11 sixes and 8 fours on the PAC Main Oval, including one out onto Hackney Rd and a monster hit onto the roof of the PAC Prep School. The target of 135 was made to look easy, Saints chasing it down in the 13th over with Brennan finishing on 108 not out and Cranmer 20 not out. It was an easy decision to award Harvey MOM honours.
This concept continues to be a highlight of the cricket calendar for both schools, and we greatly appreciate the district and non-SPOC players supporting the concept by making the time to play each year. Thanks to PAC for hosting and we look forward to having the game back at our Main Oval in 2026.
