Basketball

With our 2024 Winter season not far off we have been very busy chasing up players from the last two years plus 22 prospective 2023 Year 12 leavers who indicated they were interested in playing for SPOC Basketball at the October 2023 SPOC BBQ. As usual it’s a bit like herding cats, however we are gradually getting more responses from our emails and phone calls.

Unfortunately, we will not have Korte, Mestrov, Brunsgard, Muecke, Bransbury, Cracknell, Gauvin and Kanhere who are all heading overseas until late July. This will mean some extra pressure on our teams.

With our alternate Saturday afternoon competition (SAABL) folding up in mid February due to dwindling team numbers and financial worries, there is a scramble try and get another viable competitive competition based at Marden Sports Centre up and going for this season.

Most of our eight teams last year played in SACBA (Church Basketball). They plan to start the new winter season on Saturday 4 May. The new four courts at Wayville built by Basketball SA will feature heavily in their program for Saturday afternoons.

First training this season will be on Tuesday 9 April from 7.30 pm in the Burchnall Sports Centre. Anyone thinking about coming out is most welcome – please call me on 8296 3256 to find out more information.

Looking forward to getting another season up and going!

Kind Regards,

William Strangways (HWK 1957)
