We've experienced a rollercoaster ride in the first five weeks of our playing season. The SAABL league, which includes our A and B teams, has seen a decline in the number of participating teams this season. With only 15 teams compared to the 25 teams two years ago, it's quite disappointing.
As for our performance, the A team has won 2 out of 4 games, while the B team has won 2 out of 5. Unfortunately, we lost the last two games by a narrow margin of 2 points and 1 point respectively.
In the SA Church Basketball Association, we field six teams ranging from Div C to H. Most of our regular games take place at Scotch College or Wayville. Here's a breakdown of their performances so far:
C team: Won 3 out of 5 games.
D team: No wins in 5 games, but managed to secure 1 draw.
E team: Won 1 out of 5 games.
F team: Won 3 out of 5 games.
G team: Won 3 out of 5 games.
H team: Won 3 out of 5 games.
We've done well in terms of scoring, but the logistical challenge of having games split across different venues, sometimes with multiple games happening simultaneously, may pose a problem in the future.
On a positive note, our social nights at The Maid have been successful. The first event in early May saw an impressive turnout of 42 attendees, and the second event on June 3rd had a similar number. However, we were slightly disappointed by the higher ratio of visitors to players during the second gathering. We hope to encourage more of our players to stick around and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, along with the company of fellow players and their families/partners.
Another highlight for us was the launch of our SPOC beanies. They have a fantastic design and retail at a reasonable price of $20. The beanies have gained popularity among our members, which is great to see!
Overall, while we've experienced ups and downs in our season, we remain optimistic and determined to make the most of the remaining games, strengthen our team spirit, and continue fostering a sense of community among our players and supporters
