Film Crews at SPSC...

On a Saturday in 1984 between 9.00 am and 12.30 pm, a film crew came to St Peter's College.

They came with all their gear and equipment to film (drum roll) a car ad. Yes, you read that right. A car ad for the Mazda 323. It was filmed on 18 February out the front of Old School House. If you don’t believe me, you can find it on YouTube.

If that has piqued your curiosity, would you believe that a few movies also used the School as a filming location?

More recently, Oranges and Sunshine (2010) used a few locations on school grounds, such as the Da Costa Dining Hall (see image). The movie is based on a true story, set in the 1980s. It is about a social worker who holds the British government accountable for damaging child
migration schemes and reunites the children involved with their parents.

The exterior of Athelney House was used in Hey Hey It's Esther Blueburger (2008). This movie is a ‘coming-of-age story about a 13-year-old girl trying to fit into both a private school and an ordinary public school’ (IMDB, 2023). If you don’t feel like watching the whole movie youcan catch a snippet of Athelney House in the trailer, or in the grainy image below.

There were a few more over the years, such as Robbery Under Arms (1985 TV Movie) which used the main oval back in 1984. But you can
check out IMDB for a full list of movies that used Saints as a filming location.

The question to ask now is, will another movie be filmed here in the future? And one day, could it be a movie you work on, or maybe one about you?
