On a perfect evening for tennis, the 18th of February saw the 73rd edition of the Old Collegians Tennis match at the Kensington Gardens Lawn Tennis Club. Fresh from their victory last year, SPOC was quietly confident but prepared for a strong challenge from PAOC.
There was a strong start for SPOC, with an early and decisive doubles win from Ollie Grieve and Cam Robinson. The remaining matches were tightly contested, with two being won in super tiebreaks. This gave SPOC a commanding 5-1 lead after the first round of doubles.
The second round was a much closer affair, with each team securing three wins. A special mention goes to our debutants, Jonas Hahn, Krish Raju, and Neil Singh, who all won their respective matches. The team this year was a fantastic mix of new and older scholars, and we thank Nick Masterman and Sam Holland-Smith for their excellent work in assisting me in assembling the squad.
While the final score of 8-4 secured the E.T. Rowe Trophy for SPOC once again, the result was much closer than it appears on paper.
A big thank you to our players: Callum Gale (FLL 2020), Jude Gale (FLL 2023), Jonas Hahn (FRR 2025), Krish Raju (FRR 2025), Sam Holland-Smith (FLL 2008), Neil Singh (FRR 2025), Cameron Robinson (SHT 2016), Oliver Grieve (YNG 2023), Jamie Wells (FRR 2021), Nick Masterman (S&A 1985), Ethan Bennett (DAC 2023), and Alex Lam (FRR 2004).
We would also like to extend our gratitude to David Oligvie (S&A 2010), Guy Williamson (HWK 1995), and Ravi Sathananthan (FLL 1995) for their invaluable help behind the bar and on the BBQ.
