On the 19th of February, in perfect conditions the 72nd edition of the Old Collegians Tennis match was held at Kensington Gardens Lawn tennis club. SPOC after losing in a closer contest last year and with a mix of fresh faces and seasoned campaigners were hopeful to be able to prize the E.T. Rowe Trophy away from the PAOC.

It was a strong start for SPOC and when Callum and Jude Gale walked off first in the first doubles with a comfortable victory things were looking hopeful. The victories kept flowing and after the first round of matches SPOC had a promising four rubbers to two lead.

SPOC could sense the opportunity and never let PAOC back into the match winning 5 of the next 6 rubbers to take in the end a decisive victory. A special thanks to Callum Gale (FLL 2020), Jude Gale (FLL 2023), Kye Bennett (DAC 2022), Sam Holland-Smith (FLL 2008), Cameron Robinson (SHT 2016), Oliver Grieve (YNG 2023), Angus Koeroessy (HWD 2023), Jamie Wells (FRR 2021), Nick Masterman (S&A 1985), Ethan Bennett (DAC 2023), Harrison Nienaber (DAC 2014), Henry Chipperfield (HWK 2021) and Will Fitzgerald (FLL 2022). Thanks to PAOC for hosting this year’s event and with SPOC winning for the first time since 2017 the lads took the opportunity to have a couple refreshments after the match courtesy of our hosts!

Final Scores

SPOC 9 Rubbers, 18 Sets, 112  Games
