On the eve of one of the most anticipated days in the Saints sporting calendar, the rowing community will once again gather at the iconic St Peter’s College Torrens Boatshed for the annual Blackmore Club - Head of the River Eve Drinks.
To be held on Friday 13 March 2026 from 6.30pm, this much-loved tradition brings together generations of oarsmen, coaches, families and supporters in the relaxed surrounds of the Boatshed on Victoria Drive. With food and drinks included, the evening offers the perfect opportunity to reconnect with crew mates, share stories from seasons past, and build anticipation ahead of Head of the River.
Rowing old scholars particularly those celebrating milestone reunion years of 2016, 2006, 1996, 1986 and 1976 are warmly encouraged to attend, alongside past and present coaches, current rowing families and all who have supported Saints rowing over the years. It is an occasion that reflects the strength of the program: not only in competition, but in camaraderie, mentorship and lifelong connection.
In 2026, the evening will hold special significance as the community honours founding Blackmore Club President Don Sarah AM, who retires from the committee after more than 35 years of dedicated service. Don’s contribution to Saints rowing and to rowing across South Australia has been profound. From mentoring generations of young oarsmen to playing a leading role in developing the West Lakes course to international FISA standard, his vision helped position Adelaide on the world rowing stage, including the successful hosting of the 1998 World Masters Rowing Championships.
For those who rowed alongside Don, were coached by him, or were shaped by his leadership, this year’s gathering will be a meaningful moment to reflect on his extraordinary legacy and to thank him for the enduring impact he has had on the program and the broader rowing community.
The Blackmore Club Head of the River Eve Drinks is more than a pre-regatta celebration, it is a reminder that while crews change and seasons pass, the bonds forged on the water endure.
