SPOC Music has been immensely successful in both rehearsal and performance. Early in the year, we formed the SPOC Choir, a group of thirteen Old Scholars who came together after rehearsing weekly to perform ‘Sh-Boom’ at the annual Alfresco Concert to much success. It was fantastic to be on stage again and be able to share our love for music with the wider SPSC community.
Since then, we’ve pivoted to a Big Band, and have seen many new faces who want to join. The 22-piece Big Band, who rehearse every Monday evening, have been hard at work to practice for future performances and showcases. So far, we’ve had a mixture of instrumental features and soloists, as well as vocal guests such as Luis Vollmer (MAC 2022).
On Thursday nights we’ve been hosting small-group rehearsals, giving our musicians the chance to explore greater freedom and creativity across a wide range of genres. Many of these ensembles have already performed at SPOC events such as the Mission Guild High Tea, and you can look forward to seeing them at upcoming occasions, including the SPSC Foundation’s 40th Anniversary Celebration.
We’re excited to be planning our own concert to highlight the Big Band’s hard work — stay tuned for dates and announcements!
