As the season progressed, injuries took their toll on many of the teams, but this gave an opportunity for some juniors to step up and fill the void in the senior teams, and also gain some valuable experience.
The Winter break saw top players from across all metro clubs come together for the old scholars intercol. It was a fiercely fought game, which saw Saints come out on top with a convincing 4-2 win. Derek Lee (FRR 1998) scored 2 goals and the other 2 goals were setup and shared between the Williams brothers Finn, Coell, and Rhun. After many losses and heartbreaking draws, the Intercol Cup returns to Saints after 16 years (Since 2008) in the Red’s possession. Special mention to Paxton Silby (DAC 2018) who coached many of the past and current boys who came out to support and play in the intercol, and this win would not have been possible without them.
In August and September, many of the teams were in contention for finals but after some tough games they eventually fell just short with the M4 Mens, M5 and M6 Womens teams just missing out. The M1 women’s won play-in against Burnside but losses to eventual champions Adelaide provided them with a tough finals draw which saw them knocked out in the Quarter Finals.
To finish off the season, the awards nights was a lively affair celebrated at the Maylands Hotel. Amongst the winners were:
David Ogilvie, who was the Top Goal Scorer again this season with 12 Goals
Joshua Raseigh was the Men’s Best and Fairest
William Gao won the Rising Star Award.
Also, Dr Sarah Cannard (M1 Women) was nominated for the 2025 SA Australian of the Year, and we wish her the best of luck.
We hope to see everyone and many new faces out pre-season early next year! Please follow us on Facebook for 2025 Season Details!
