The Old Scholars Snooker Intercol was held at the Naval and Military Club during Old Scholars' Week. It is an event that is eagerly anticipated by both teams, not just for the competition, but for the fun and camaraderie. Each side fields eight players and we play a mixture of doubles and singles on two tables. We play short format frames to ensure we get as much play in as possible.
Saints has been the dominant side for many years and results from previous matches have tended to be one sided in our favour. The event is always played in good spirit and to their credit, PAOC fielded a strong side and many of the frames were competitive. Several frames in fact were decided on the final black ball.
In the end SPOC ran away comfortable victors with a final score of 10 frames to 5. Special mention to Jake Howie and Ian Hogben who were undefeated in all their frames. A big thank you to all SPOC players who participated in the event. These include Richard Colley (WDK 1977); Jake Howie (MCD 1976); Ian Hogben (HWD 1975); Karl Kirsten (YNG 1992); Jon Cocks (FRL 1973); Andy Paull (SHT 1987); Andrew Bishop (FLL 1974) and Jason Ahmad (FLL 1987). Finally a big shout out and thank you to the PAOC players, and especially Nick Blanch the PAOC Convenor, who is almost as enthusiastic about snooker as I am.
