On Friday 15 March SPOC Men and Women played against St Peter’s College and St Peter’s Girl’s School in the P. Hadfield and L. Spry Cups. These two games are played annually in the weeks leading up to intercol and serve to both deepen the bond between current students and old scholars, and, more importantly, honour the coaches who have dedicated decades of their life to the water polo program.
Paul Hadfield was and continues to be an integral member of the St Peter’s water polo community, having coached the 1st VII team for over two decades, and SPOC WP couldn’t think of a more appropriate way to honour him than hosting a game between current and former Saints boys.

Both games resulted in a win for the old scholars. The SPOC women won a tight 5-3 game against the Open A’s, which was ended with a few decisive goals from the captain Carys Jones. The men on the other hand, ran away with an early lead and ended the game 17-6 against the 1st VII. Credit must be given to the boys, who had already played the Water Polo state final two hours prior, and still managed to play a competitive game.
