Good friends,

In sport, we often hear people talk about the one percenter’s, the little things, the extra efforts, the selfless commitment, that can make all the difference, often between winning and losing.

One percent.  It isn’t much of a number on its own, but it can be. It doesn’t sound like it can change much, but it certainly can. It may not be of much value, but it can be very powerful.

Our School was founded by people who knew the value of extra effort, the value of a vision and the value of a commitment to the future.  We are very fortunate. Our walls and fields reflect the values of people that made us. Their contributions have left their mark. Their legacy is all about us.

It’s about people like you, like me, like my friend Nick.

We all know a Nick. A good man. Successful in business. Great family.  Happy.  But who has reached a point where he was able to take some time to think about his life and what he wanted, what would be his legacy.

One day he bumped into an old friend in the street, and they walked together for a while, talking about life. They talked about their school days, wondering what had happened to a few of their mates. His friend said how he had gone back to their school a month ago, to an old scholar’s event, and was amazed at how much had changed since their school days.  He talked about how the school was now supporting means tested scholarships, how it was upgrading its learning spaces all whilst preserving the history and legacy of its founding fathers.

Now Nick hadn’t thought much about that part of the school before, and why it might need his help, but when he did, he easily remembered just how important his education had been and had become in his career.

Then his friend said something that really caught his attention. His friend said “Well, I wanted to help the school, so I have decided to leave 1% of my estate to them. It may not be a lot of money, but I know it can help the School support students who need financial help to get a great education, just like we did.”

So, Nick thought, well I could do that. And he did. And as the years passed, Nick continued to enjoy a successful career, his family flourished, and he even sent his own children to the School. In the end, that 1% commitment had become a significant sum of money.

One percent. It isn’t much of a number on its own, but it can be. It doesn’t sound like it can change much, but it certainly can. It may not be of much value, but it can be very powerful.

Perhaps like Nick, you can commit 1% of your estate to our School? It is a commitment that can make a real impact on the lives of generations to come. You can leave your mark on our walls and fields. I am going to.

Yours,
