One of the enduring hallmarks of a St Peter’s College education is the way it shapes not just what we know, but how we relate to one another. This term, we’ve focused on that simple but powerful idea: that how we treat each other matters. It matters in the classroom and in the common room, on the sporting field and in the workplace, and well beyond the school gates.

The values of truth, respect and service have long guided our community. But they are only as meaningful as the way they are lived. As we seek to nurture these values in today’s students, we also recognise that they have been modelled by generations of old scholars – through your actions, your leadership and the example you continue to set.

To support a culture where these values remain central, we have introduced a School Community Code of Conduct – developed with input from staff, parents and community members and endorsed by our Council of Governors. It outlines clear expectations for respectful, inclusive and positive behaviour across all school-related settings – including our old scholar and sporting networks.

I encourage all old scholars to read the Code and consider how we each contribute to a culture of respect – not only within our own circles, but as stewards of a broader legacy.

That sense of legacy is also central to our 2025 Annual Giving Appeal, which invites our old scholar community to support the renewal of Old School House – the historic heart of our campus. Since the laying of the foundation stone on our current site in 1849, Old School House has stood as a symbol of learning, leadership and continuity. The first stage of its renewal focuses on the RT Potter Room, named in honour of long-serving teacher, mentor and coach, Dick Potter.

Our goal is to raise $100,000 to transform the RT Potter Room into a contemporary learning space that both preserves his legacy and meets the needs of today’s students. In celebration of the St Peter’s College Foundation’s 40th anniversary, all donations made before 30 June 2025 will be matched by the Foundation. Every gift – regardless of size – will make a lasting impact.

In recent months, I have had the great pleasure of connecting with old scholars and their partners across Australia and abroad. These occasions have been heartening reminders of the enduring strength of our alumni network – and the shared sense of belonging that transcends generations. From the Fleurieu Peninsula to Melbourne, Singapore, London and New York, what has stood out most is the remarkable diversity of year groups represented – often spanning 50 plus years. While in Singapore, it was also a pleasure to catch up with Anjli Khurana, widow of Rohan Khurana (SCH 1991), and to reflect together on the deep and lasting connections formed at SPSC.

To see alumni from across generations coming together, sharing stories and reconnecting over their shared experience of St Peter’s College is a powerful reminder of the enduring ties that bind our community.

I look forward to the Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane Chapter Dinners, in coming months with full details to be made available via SPOC Connect.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our School – and for the many ways in which you honour its past, contribute to its present and help shape its future.
