From the Headmaster | December 2022 Update

Tim Browning, Headmaster, provides an update and reflection of term 4.

I have greatly enjoyed a very busy Term 4 with over 600 old scholars welcomed back to the School to attend reunions, lunches and dinners. At the 33rd Old Blues Luncheon in October we acknowledged those celebrating their 60 Year Milestone Reunion. In November four milestone reunions were held, before an Australian Honours and Awards Dinner was hosted in December. This inaugural dinner provided an opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding service and contribution our old scholars have made to their community in diverse fields such as Engineering, Medicine, Business, and Viticulture.

We were fortunate to host 12 year groups across 20, 30, 40 and 50 Year Milestone reunions to accommodate those postponed over the past two years. It was a pleasure to see our old scholar community reconnect and reunite at these reunions with drinks in Big Quad, an opportunity to explore the revitalised precinct, take a tour of the School before enjoying dinner with their peer year.

In October we were thrilled to launch SPOC Connect, our new online community hub designed to engage and connect our community of over 11,000 old scholars living across the globe. The platform enables old scholars to connect via peer year, geographical location and interest groups, catch up on the latest old scholar events and browse the gallery of photo albums. In the coming months, old scholars will also be able to mentor other old scholars, register their business on the Business Directory and search the Jobs Board. If you’ve not already, be sure to join SPOC Connect here. The launch of SPOC Connect is an investment by SPSC to support our old scholar community.

Our Class of 2022 was fittingly farewelled with traditional valedictory celebrations including intimate House Dinners, a final Chapel Service and Communion, Valedictory Muster, an Avenue of Honour, SPOC New Members BBQ, Speech Day Ceremony and Valedictory Dinner. These long-standing traditions continue to provide students and families opportunities to reflect on their experiences, achievements and journey at SPSC.

I extend my thanks to SPOC Events & Administration Manager Bianca Harms and the SPOC Committee for their efforts in coordinating an extensive program of events for our old scholars across the year. Thank you for welcoming our Class of 2022 into your inspiring and diverse community. I am confident that our newest old scholars are graduating as assured, compassionate, capable and caring young men who are ready to flourish outside the walls of St Peter’s College, with their best yet to come.

2022 has been a special year in the School’s 175 year history. Thank you to everyone who has joined us across the year to reflect with appreciation and admiration on the contributions of our forebears who created the opportunities we enjoy today; after all, it is the people who have made SPSC the school it is today. We are all custodians of a great tradition and are responsible for building upon the foundations laid by those who have come before us as we look to the future and the legacy we are creating for generations to come.

I look forward to engaging with our old scholar community at school events across 2023 including our ANZAC Day and Founders’ Day services along with our welcome drinks at the start of the academic year. Keep an eye on SPOC Connect for further details.

Wishing you and your family a happy Christmas and a positive and prosperous 2023.
